Hot tub covers made to measure
A good cover keeps the heat in, the rain and leaves out, and carries a winter snowfall. We supply made-to-measure replacement covers for most makes of hot tub, with foam thick enough for Fraser Valley winters, plus cover lifters to go with them.
A hot tub cover has a big effect on running costs: it holds in heat, keeps rain off the water and stops leaves and needles from clogging the filter. Covers wear out long before the tub does, and when one gets heavy, sags or tears, it's time for a new one made to fit your tub exactly.
Made to measure
Covers aren't one size fits all. Shells vary in size and corner shape even between tubs that look alike, and a gap of a few centimetres lets heat escape. We supply replacement covers for most makes, built to these measurements:
- Length and width across the outside edge of the acrylic lip
- Corner radius, or the length of the cut on angled corners
- Skirt length, the flap that hangs down over the cabinet
- Fold direction, so the cover folds the way your lifter and space need
- Strap and lock positions
The make, model and year of your tub are a good start. We take or check the measurements before a cover is ordered.
What to look for in a cover
Tapered foam
Covers are thicker in the middle than at the edges, so rain and melting snow run off. Basic covers often taper from about 4 inches to 2; for our wet winters and the occasional heavy snowfall, a thicker taper such as 5 inches to 3 sheds water better and carries more weight.
Foam density
Denser foam is stiffer and resists sagging under snow and pooled rain. Covers are usually offered in more than one foam density, and the denser options last better here.
Vapour barrier
Each foam core should be sealed in heavy plastic sheeting. That barrier stops steam from soaking into the foam, which is how covers become waterlogged and heavy.
Vinyl, stitching and the hinge
Marine-grade vinyl stands up to UV and rain. Look for double-stitched seams, a reinforced hinge across the fold and a heat seal along the hinge, so warm air doesn't escape through the middle.
Straps and locks
Straps with locks keep the cover on in the wind and help keep children out of the water.
Cover lifters
A cover lifter makes opening and closing a one-person job, saves wear on the hinge and handles, and keeps the cover off the ground. Some mount to the cabinet and others slide under the tub, and the right one depends on the space behind and beside your tub. Most need some clearance behind the tub for the folded cover, which is worth planning for if the tub sits close to a wall or under a gazebo.
Looking after your cover
- Clean and condition the vinyl a few times a year with a product made for spa covers
- Brush off heavy snow rather than letting it build up
- Keep the straps fastened when it's windy
- Don't sit, stand or let anyone climb on it
- Leave it open for a while after shocking the water, so the gas can escape instead of attacking the underside

FAQ
Questions
Something else on your mind? Ask us when you request a quote.
How long does a hot tub cover last?
It depends on the cover, the weather and how it's cared for. Covers usually wear out well before the tub does, and heavy, waterlogged foam is the most common reason to replace one.
How do I measure my hot tub for a new cover?
Measure the length and width across the outside edge of the acrylic lip, the corner radius and the skirt length. Better still, send us the make, model and year, and we'll confirm the measurements before ordering.
What cover thickness is best for the Fraser Valley?
A thicker taper sheds winter rain better and carries more snow. A 5 to 3 inch taper or thicker suits most tubs here.
Why is my hot tub cover so heavy?
The foam has absorbed water, usually because the vapour barrier around it has torn or broken down. A waterlogged cover insulates poorly and won't dry out, so it needs replacing.
Do you supply covers for tubs you didn't sell?
Yes. We supply made-to-measure replacement covers for most makes of hot tub.
